Wishful ThinkingInt. Wes’ Apartment – Night
The apartment is small and has that bachelor pad feel with sparse furniture, juvenile posters, and game systems. Wes is sitting on the recliner in the living room, beer in his hand. The TV is on quietly, but Wes’ eyes are closed. Hope enters the living room, tray in hand.
She asks if Wes is sleeping, and Wes says he’s just resting his eyes. Hope tells him she thought he’d like a snack, and Wes opens his eyes to a roasted chicken complete with garnish. Wes tells Hope she didn’t have to do that, but Hope counters that she wanted to.
Hope’s expression is cloudy, there’s more to what she’s saying than that. Hope adds that she had to. With a bright smile, she continues saying because she loves Wes, more than anything. Wes winces and pats the recliner, asking Hope to sit down for a minute.
Hope obeys, and Wes inquires as to whether Hope is truly happy or not. Automatically, Hope responds that she loves Wes more than anything. Wes nods, he gets that , but he wants to know more and returns the I love you, but adds that he wants Hope to start doing some things that make her happy, that made her happy before.
Hope says she’s try harder and will start right away on that. Wes is frustrated by this point and tells Hope that’s not what he meant. Hope can’t take the Wes’ unhappiness and she pales, letting out a gasp of horror. She drops to her knees at Wes’ feet, and desperately begs him not to be angry with her—she’d just die if he was.
Wes informs Hope that he’s not angry with her. Hope immediately switches gears, and starts crawling up Wes’ body. She tells Wes to let her make it up to him, let her make it right.
The door bell rings and Hope gets up to answer it. She returns a second later with Sam and Dean in tow. Wes takes in his visitors with barely noticeable surprise. Hope chides Wes for not saying he had called the florists for the wedding. Wes can’t contain his confusion, but Hope ignores it and simply tells her man that he’s the best. She kiss the top of Wes’ head and jogs off to get her wedding folder.
Sam and Dean study the framed coin collection hanging on the living room wall and exchange a look. Dean asks Wesley how’s it going and Wes tells him that it’s Wes, not Wesley. Then proceeds to say that he thought the brother’s were from the Health Department.
Sam chimes in that they’re florist, just on the side. Dean loses his patience and says they’re with the FBI, and on Thursday they’re Teddy Bear doctors. Wes is totally baffled and Dean says that it doesn’t matter who they are, what matters is that they know.
Wes is confused, and Sam points out that Wes’ a coin collector. Wes explains that his grandfather left them to him. Sam and Dean sit on the couch across from Wes, and Dean asks if Wes happened to lose any coins lately. Or maybe not so much lose as drop it into the wishing well at Lucky Chin’s. Wes says that he doesn’t know what they are talking about.
Hope returns with a thick file and stack of bookmarked magazines. She sits at Wes’ feet, spreading it all out on the coffee table. She tells Dean and Sam that she has a lot of ideas, but they don’t have all the money in the world. Hope laughs, eyes sparkling when she looks at Wes and proudly declares that Wes is between jobs which means more time with her.
Hope turns her attention back to the folders, turning pages. She tells the
Winchester brothers that she’s thinking of something Japanese or Ikebana. Dean says that yeah, he’s totally seeing it. And Sam locks eyes with Wes, but addresses the question of how the two people met to Hope.
Hope gushes that it was the best day of her life. She says its the funniest thing because they both grew up in the same town, went to the same church, same school, and she never really got to know him, not by name at least until last month. It was like she saw him for the first time, and Wes was glowing.
Wes squirms as her story continues, and interrupts asking Hope to go get some coffee. Hope jumps up immediately to go retrieve the coffee, but instead of running to the kitchen right away, she gives Wes a long, drawn out French kiss. Sam and Dean watch awkwardly. Wes’ words are muffled as he tries to talk through the kiss, and tell Hope to go to the kitchen.
Hope darts off with her mission and Sam and Dean both level their gazes at Wes. Sam tells Wes that they know, so he might as well tell them the truth.
Int. Wes’s House – Later
Wes is holding a coin frame in his hands. One coin is conspicuously missing. Wes informs the Winchesters that his grandfather found the coin in North Africa during World War II and brought it back with him. Grandpa always told him that it was a real wish granting coin, but that no one could ever use it. Wes says that his Grandpa was all he had and when he died, Wes thought he’d just give the coin a shot.
Sam gets up and informs Wes that now he’s gonna just wish it back. Wes tells Sam that no, he’s not. Dean stands up next to his brother, both boys looming over Wes. Dean warns Wes that if he doesn’t stop this , something bad is gonna happen to him. Sam interjects that the something bad is like well, them. Wes looks them over, and Dean lifts his jacket, revealing the gun tucked in his waistband. Dean says that he really wishes Wes would come with them.
Ext. Impala – Night
Sam and Dean are escorting Wes to the Impala. Wes looks back nervously at his house. He tells the brothers that he can’t be gone for too long, Hope gets sort of crazy lonely when he’s away. Dean tells him to get moving.
Int. Impala – Night
Dean’s driving, Sam’s shotgun and Wes is in the back bitching. He argues that so what if his wish came true, its not a bad thing. Sam points out that Wes’ isn’t the only wish to come true. The well works for anybody now. Dean chimes in that would be the reason the entire town is going nuts.
Wes asks why, and Dean tells him that the coin is cursed. Wes counters that the coin works. Sam interrupts and says that the wishes go south, all of them. Dean asks if Wes would really define his relationship with Hope as functional, what he really wished for.
Wes says that he wished she’d love him more than anything. Sam asks how Wes thinks that’s going, and if that seems healthly. Wes counters saying its a hell of a lot better than when she didn’t even know he was alive.
Int. Lucky #1 Chin’s - Night
Wes approaches Hope with a look of rising horror. Hope brightens as he gets closer to her, ‘cause that’s all she cares about and all she wants—just to be near her man. Wes asks Hope if she really wished a man dead. Hope replies that she loves Wes more than anything.
That does it, Wes loses it and demands that Hope stop saying that. Hope breaks, sobbing, and tells Wes that it’s true, more than anything, and more than life. She begs Wes not to hate her. Hope collapses in Wes’ arms and he comforts her, but his face is saddened.
Wes tells her that its okay, he’s going to make it okay. Hope looks up, her eyes full of love and Wes kisses her tenderly. He steps back, and goes to the well, removing the coin. There’s a low rumble as the cursed magic ebbs away.
Wes turns around and looks back to the beautiful woman, blinking like she’s waking from a dream. He calls out Hope’s name, but Hope acts like she doesn’t even know who he is.
